Extreme Sports covered in your travel insurance policy?
Most of the travel medical insurance policy in Canada do not provide coverage to their insured. Their general exclusion usually exclude dangerous or extreme sports and professional participation on sports contest.
Manulife Emergency Medical Plan
excludes any emergency resulting from: hang-gliding, rock climbing, mountaineering, parachuting or skydiving; participating in a motorized speed contest; or your professional participation in a sport, snorkeling or scuba-diving when that sport, snorkeling or scuba-diving is your principal paid occupation.
Travel Underwriters Freedom Plan
excludes injury or sickness while scuba diving unless you are certified by an internationally recognized and accepted program (NAUI, PADI).
ETFS Medi-Select Plan
exclude participation in any sports as a professional athlete (person who engages in an activity as one?s main paid occupation); any competitive motorized sporting events, racing or speed contests.
TIC Coordinators Emergency Medical Plan
excludes injury resulting from training for or participating in speed contests usually and customarily in excess of 60 km per hour, professional sport activities, or organized motor sport contests.
Travel Guard Deluxe Plan
excludes rock or mountain climbing; participation in a motor sport, motor racing or speed contests; your professional participation in an organized sport; or scuba diving (unless you hold an open water diving certificate).
CanAm Travel Rite Plan
excludes any expenses which result directly or indirectly from participation in professional sports or motorized speed contests. Professional sports means participation in a sporting event for remuneration or financial gain.
MNUI Atlas Plan
excludes injury sustained while taking part in the following activities: Amateur or professional sports or athletics, except this does not include Amateur sports or athletics which are non-contact and undertaken solely for leisure, recreational, entertainment or fitness purpose unless such sports or athletics are otherwise excluded by this provision. The following are excluded: Mountaineering where ropes or guides are normally used, or at elevations of 4,500 meters or higher; Aviation, except when traveling solely as a passenger in a commercial aircraft; Hang gliding, sky diving, parachuting or bungee jumping; Snow skiing or snowboarding, except for recreational downhill and/or cross-country snow skiing or snowboarding (no cover provided whilst skiing away from prepared and marked in-bound territories and/or against the advice of the local ski school or local authoritative body); Racing by any animal or motorized vehicle; and spelunking; and subaqua pursuits involving underwater breathing apparatus unless NAUI/P certified and accompanied by a certified instructor, and at depths of less than 10 meters; jet skiing; and any other sport or athletic activity which is undertaken for thrill seeking and exposes you to abnormal or extreme risk of injury
The Optional Hazardous Sports Rider is available for the adventurous traveler. This Rider adds coverage for the Amateur sports listed above. The maximum coverage under this rider is the overall maximum limit you select. The Accidental Death and dismemberment benefit is deleted during the course of the activity.
IMG Patriot Plan
excludes injury sustained while participating in amateur or professional sports or their athletic activity which is organized and/or sanctioned, or which involves regular or scheduled practices, games or competition. The following hazardous activities are excluded: racing of any kind, aviation (except when traveling as a passenger in a commercial aircraft), BMX, BASE jumping, bobsleigh, bungee jumping, canyoning, caving, high diving, hang gliding, heli-skiing, hot air ballooning, inline skating, jet skiing, kayaking, luge, motocross (moto-x), mountain biking, mountaineering, parachuting, rappelling, rock climbing, rodeo , scuba diving, ski jumping, sky diving, snow skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, spelunking, snorkeling, surfing, wakeboarding, water skiing, wind-surfing and whitewater rafting.
The optional Leisure Sports Rider adds coverage for jet skiing, scuba diving, snow skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, snorkeling, surfing, wakeboarding, water skiing and windsurfing.
The optional Extreme sports Rider adds up to 12 months of overage for those under the age of 50. This rider provides up to US$50,000 lifetime maximum for the following activities: abseiling, BMX, bungee jumping, canyoning, caving, flying private plane, hang gliding, heli-skiing, high diving, hot air ballooning, kayaking, inline skating, mountain biking, mountaineering (ropes and guides to 4500m from ground level), paragliding, parascending, rappelling, rock climbing(ropes and guides to 4500m from ground level), skydiving, spelunking, whitewater rafting (to Class V). These extreme activities must be engaged in solely for leisure, recreation, or entertainment purpose.
